1. What is El Viajero Coffee?

El Viajero Coffee is a specialty coffee brand that sources exceptional beans directly from Colombian farms. Our mission is to provide high-quality coffee while empowering farming communities and supporting sustainable practices.

2. Where does El Viajero Coffee come from?

Our coffee is carefully sourced from Colombia’s renowned coffee-growing regions, including Huila, Nariño, Antioquia, and Tolima. Each region offers unique flavor profiles influenced by its microclimate, altitude, and soil.

3. Where are Huila and Antioquia, and how are their coffees different?

Huila: Located in southwestern Colombia, Huila is one of the country’s premier coffee regions, known for its high altitudes and volcanic soils. Coffee from Huila often features bright acidity, fruity notes, and a rich sweetness.

Antioquia: Situated in the northwest, Antioquia is a historic coffee-growing region. Coffee here tends to have a smoother, milder profile with nutty and chocolatey undertones, perfect for those who enjoy a balanced cup.
The distinctions in these coffees reflect the diversity of Colombia’s landscapes and climates.

4. What makes El Viajero Coffee different?

At El Viajero Coffee, we go beyond coffee. Through direct trade partnerships, we ensure farmers are fairly compensated and empowered to improve their farms. Many of the farmers we partner with hire Wayúu workers from La Guajira, providing them with meaningful work and steady income to support their families. These partnerships create economic opportunities in underserved communities while preserving cultural traditions.

5. Where is La Guajira, who are the Wayúu people, and how does El Viajero Coffee help them?

La Guajira: La Guajira is a region in northern Colombia known for its stunning deserts and the vibrant culture of the Wayúu people.
The Wayúu People: The Wayúu are an Indigenous community with a rich cultural heritage, known for their traditional crafts and resilience in the face of economic challenges.

How We Help: Many Wayúu workers travel to coffee farms in Huila to work in harvesting and processing coffee. These jobs provide essential income, allowing them to support their families in La Guajira. By partnering with farmers who hire Wayúu workers, El Viajero Coffee fosters sustainable livelihoods and helps bridge the gap between these regions.

6. What is the Honey Process, and how does it affect the coffee?

The Honey Process is a method of processing coffee where some of the fruit mucilage is left on the beans during drying. This enhances the coffee's natural sweetness and creates a rich, fruity profile with notes of plum, apple, and maple syrup in our limited-release offerings.

7. What is natural coffee?

Natural coffee refers to beans that are dried with the entire coffee cherry intact, allowing the fruit’s sugars to infuse into the beans during processing. This method results in a bold, complex flavor profile with pronounced fruity and wine-like notes. Our natural process coffees highlight the vibrant flavors unique to Colombia’s terroir.

8. How does my purchase make a difference?

Your purchase supports farmers and their families directly. For every bag of coffee sold, $0.50 is given back to help farmers improve and maintain their farms. Additionally, by partnering with farmers like Mequizedek Vargas, who employs Wayúu workers, your purchase provides essential income for families in La Guajira.

9. Do you offer wholesale coffee?

Yes! We work with cafes, restaurants, and businesses that value high-quality, ethically sourced coffee. For more information about our wholesale program, please contact us at info@elviajerocoffee.com

10. How should I store my coffee?

To keep your coffee fresh, store it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid refrigeration or freezing, as this can introduce moisture and affect the flavor.

11. Do you ship internationally?

Currently, we ship only ship within the US and its territories. If you’re located outside our shipping zones, please reach out, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your order.

12. What grind size should I choose?

The grind size depends on your brewing method:

Coarse Grind: French Press, Cold Brew
Medium Grind: Drip Coffee Makers, Pour-Over
Fine Grind: Espresso Machines
If you’re unsure, we recommend whole beans for maximum freshness so you can grind as needed.

13. Can I subscribe to receive coffee regularly?

Yes! Our subscription service ensures you never run out of your favorite coffee. Customize your delivery frequency, and we’ll ship freshly roasted beans right to your door.
