Our Story

At El Viajero Coffee, we believe coffee is more than just a beverage—it’s a bridge connecting cultures, empowering people, and fostering a deeper relationship with the environment. As a team of passionate coffee lovers, we are committed to delivering exceptional coffee while promoting ethical practices, sustainability, and social responsibility throughout the entire coffee supply chain.

Our journey began with a shared love for coffee and a desire to transform the industry into one that is more equitable and sustainable. We take a hands-on approach, traveling to coffee-growing regions like Antioquia and Huila to meet directly with farmers. By building long-term relationships and engaging in meaningful conversations, we learn about their needs and share feedback from our customers. This feedback loop strengthens our partnerships and helps farmers refine their craft while ensuring that every cup of El Viajero Coffee meets the highest standards of quality.

We source our coffee through Direct Trade, paying farmers above-market prices for their exceptional products and ensuring every bean is ethically and sustainably produced. Our farmers are encouraged to use natural, sustainable practices, such as incorporating pyroligneous acid for fertilizer and fumigation, which promotes soil health and reduces reliance on harmful chemicals.

Beyond coffee sourcing, we are deeply committed to uplifting the communities we work with. This includes supporting farmers who employ Wayúu workers from La Guajira, providing meaningful job opportunities that enable them to send money home to support their families. By fostering these connections, we create a ripple effect that uplifts entire communities.

Our coffee is sourced from the lush landscapes of Huila and Antioquia, where Colombia’s diverse microclimates and volcanic soils give rise to unique flavor profiles. By working directly with local farmers, we ensure that each cup of El Viajero Coffee is not only delicious but also a testament to the care, collaboration, and purpose behind it.

At El Viajero Coffee, we believe that great coffee should not only taste great but also do great things for the world. Thank you for joining us on this journey to create a better, more sustainable, and more equitable coffee industry—one sip at a time.

Understanding Coffee Ratios

The ratio of coffee to water is one of the most important factors in brewing great coffee. It determines the strength and extraction of your final cup.

1:15 (Strong) Bold, intense flavor. Good for lighter roasts or those who prefer stronger coffee.
1:16 (Medium-Strong) Well-balanced with good body. Popular choice for most brewing methods.
1:17 (Medium) Smooth and approachable. Great for showcasing coffee's natural flavors.
1:18 (Mild) Light and clean. Perfect for delicate coffees or casual drinking.

Pro Tip: Start with 1:16 and adjust to taste. If your coffee tastes too weak, try 1:15. If it's too strong or bitter, try 1:17 or 1:18.
